§ 25-44. Meter locations for buildings seventy-five feet or less from the centerline of a road.

  • Meters for buildings where the shortest distance between the centerline of the road containing the main and the closest edge of the building is seventy-five (75) feet or less may be installed in one (1) of the following locations:

    (1)

    Crawl space: The crawl space shall have at least thirty-six (36) inches clearance between the floor of the crawl space and any overhead obstacles. Outside access doors/windows to the crawl space shall be installed to allow entry for maintenance and sustainment, no less than a minimum of thirty-six (36) inches in width and height. The meter shall be no farther than six (6) feet from the access door, and shall have not less than twelve (12) inches of clearance. The floor of the crawl space must have adequate drainage. No electrical wires may be in this area unless contained in nonconductive conduit.

    (2)

    Basement: Meters located in a basement shall have not less than eight (8) inches clearance on all sides. The meter shall have not less than twelve (12) inches clearance above the face of the meter, and shall be located not less than eight (8) inches and not greater than forty-eight (48) inches above the floor of the basement. If the meter is enclosed a minimum sixteen-inch height/width access door will be installed.

    (3)

    Common areas: Meters located in common areas shall have the same minimum clearances as provided for in basement locations. Common areas shall be unlocked and readily accessible to the finance director at any reasonable time.

    (4)

    Exceptions: If it is determined by the code administrator that it is not feasible to locate the meters in a crawl space or basement, then the meter shall be located in compliance with section 25-43.
