§ 25-31.1. Water main general specifications.

  • The city engineer shall determine the size of all mains, but in no instance shall a main be less then six (6) inches in diameter. Mains shall be installed with a minimum cover of forty-eight (48) inches. The maximum trench width shall be the nominal inside pipe diameter plus twenty-four (24) inches. Minimum trench widths shall be wide enough as to give a minimum of six (6) inches clearance between the trench walls and the exterior of the pipe. Water mains shall be pressure tested and disinfected prior to being placed in service. The pressure test shall be performed in accordance with city requirements. The disinfection shall be done according to AWWA C600. If any subdivision regulation relating to the installation of water mains would otherwise apply, then the subdivision regulation shall prevail if they exceed any of the provisions contained herein.
